Definition of an Anonymous Guest

An Anonymous Guest is a guest who exists in the Intouch system but whose details such as name, age, email etc. have not been captured or linked to a real person.
When initially created, the guest record for an anonymous guest will typically have the guest's ID number (as automatically generated by the system) as the guest first-name and the word 'Guest' as the surname.
Starting with SalesPoint 7.110.7 Anonymous Guests are now better identified within the Intouch system. When an anonymous guest is created, a special, new attribute record is associated with the guest, and it is this record which specifically defines whether a guest is anonymous.
The idea of having an anonymous guest is that a resort operator can easily distribute media - typically as part of a marketing campaign - which is pre-loaded with products in order to draw-in a person to ultimately make them a customer.
When a person receives anonymous media, the expectation is that the anonymous guest will be converted into a known guest at a future point. This will either be done by the guest self-converting by going on-line, or by an Intouch operator at POS or administrative application.

Creation of Anonymous Guests.

Anonymous Guests are created in SalesPoint when products are purchased which allow anonymous sales: See Resources | Multi-List | Edit Product | Supplementary.

In SalesPoint, where a Link to Pass is required and anonymous sales are not allowed, SalesPoint will automatically bring up the guest edit form – prompting the user to enter guest details. Name, age, date of birth etc. This DOES NOT happen where an Anonymous Sale is allowed. Instead, SalesPoint will automatically create anonymous guest records in the background, prior to printing the media, and will also add in the special Anonymous Guest attribute record for the guest.

Converting an Anonymous Guest to a known guest.

Converting an Anonymous Guest to a known guest will typically be done in one of three ways:

Converting via WebStore

This guest will automatically self-convert from an anonymous guest to a known guest when they go into Webstore, enter their webcode, update their details and click 'Create Account'

Please note the following:

  • The guest will receive no feed-back indicating that they are now a known guest. The operation is implicit.
  • Once the guest has converted themselves to a known guest, they cannot be converted back to an anonymous guest.

Converting via SalesPoint

When the operator edits a guest record in SalesPoint and clicks 'OK', if the guest was originally marked as anonymous, the anonymity will be lost and the guest will have bene converted to a known guest.

Please note the following:

  • The operator will receive no feed-back indicating that the guest has been converted from an anonymous guest to a known guest.
  • Once a guest has been converted to a known guest, they cannot be converted back to an anonymous guest.

Converting via ResPoint

When the operator edits a guest record in ResPoint and clicks 'Apply', if the guest was originally marked as anonymous, this anonymity will be lost and the guest will have been converted to a known guest.

Please note the following:

  • The operator will receive no feed-back indicating that the guest has been converted from an anonymous guest to a known guest.
  • Once a guest has been converted to a known guest, they cannot be converted back to an anonymous guest.

Implementation Notes

General Notes

The following elements impact the implementation of this system:

  • The following required tables must be in place to support the improved identification of anonymous guests:
    • g_attrib
    • g_attrib_type
